Little Mark dreams of becoming an architect. Already every day he builds castles out of kinetic sand, and draws fancy houses on paper with paints. Who knows, maybe this smart kid will grow up and build new cities for comfortable life?
Mark has spina bifida, a complex birth defect. Because of this, Mark cannot walk, he deftly twists the rims of his active stroller and is as fast as his friends. But there are also problems with Mark's diagnosis that are not always as obvious as movement disorders. Children diagnosed with spina bifida have kidney and urinary disorders 100% of the time.
A child diagnosed with spina bifida should definitely have a comprehensive urologic evaluation (CUDI) to correct the urologic abnormalities. Proper urological care will help the child to adjust the urinary system, give up wearing diapers all the time, and facilitate social adaptation. Delayed and untimely care can lead not only to the most serious complications in the form of impaired kidney function, but also to the threat to the life of the child.
Doctors in outpatient clinics often do not know about the specifics of monitoring children with a diagnosis of spina bifida and limit themselves to standard examination protocols, which are insufficient. Most parents learn about the importance of CUDI when they apply to the Spina Bifida Charitable Foundation from the staff. But CUDI is not on the list of mandatory medical examinations. That's why we are collecting funds to pay for CUDI for Mark.
Let's help Mark get an important examination now!
