Khadija was born with a congenital heart defect. Her condition was extremely severe. Her blood saturation, that is, her oxygen saturation, dropped to 65%! The girl could hardly breathe, and needed immediate skilled care.
Her parents flew urgently from Kyrgyzstan to a hospital in St. Petersburg, where after examination, doctors performed the first stage of treatment: a heart bypass surgery.
Six-month-old Khadija now needs a second surgery to allow blood from her upper body to flow to her lungs, bypassing the heart.

According to her mother, Khadija is a calm and smiling child. Despite the congenital defect, the baby is developing as a normal child of her age: she loves to play with rattles, reacts to sounds, and recognizes familiar faces.
