Viktoriya was born healthy and developed according to her age. She went to school, loved table tennis, drawing, and dancing. She had friends and plans for the future.
But when Vika was 10 years old, she had her first epileptic seizure. This was followed by a diagnosis of epilepsy and numerous examinations. She was prescribed various medications and underwent three brain surgeries—all without result. Vika is experiencing progressive intellectual disability and mental disorder, with impaired speech and gait. She finished 9th grade through home schooling.
Now Vika is completely under her parents' supervision: because of the seizures, she can fall into her plate of food, fall in the bathroom, or down the stairs. But Vika dreams of being independent and studying! She participates in a 'noise orchestra,' a 'creative workshop,' and works with a psychologist.
Doctors recommend a genetic test—whole genome sequencing for Vika and her parents. The analysis will help identify the defect and select the right treatment to stop the seizures and brain deterioration. Then Vika will be able to continue her studies, go to dance classes she dreams of, and live a full life.
