Artur's lungs are functioning at only 30 percent, and his heart is under tremendous pressure—all because the boy has a congenital funnel-shaped chest. If surgery is performed using a titanium plate, Artur will be able to breathe normally and not fear for his life.
Arthur’s ribs are caved inward near his heart. For a long time, climbing stairs has been difficult for him; now, reaching his third-floor home is a major struggle, and he spends more and more time lying down. Schoolwork is challenging, he is exempt from physical education, and he cannot carry anything heavy. Arthur has also developed scoliosis. As recently as this spring, his vital lung capacity was at the lower limit of the normal range—82 units—but now it has dropped to just 59. Most importantly, however, his heart is being compressed.
Arthur is awaiting surgery: a titanium plate will be used to straighten his caved-in chest and secure his ribs in the correct position. As the bones stabilize in their proper place, his lungs will be able to expand fully, and his heart will no longer be under pressure—a year later, the plate can be removed. Let’s help him!
