Orphans and foster children come to Moscow for treatment from various parts of Russia. Hospitalization becomes a serious challenge for them: the journey, unfamiliar surroundings, medical procedures, and new people cause anxiety and stress. Many children have already experienced traumatic events, so any changes are especially difficult for them.
At the social center of the 'You Are Needed' foundation, children stay between hospitalizations. Here, they need not only physical assistance but also psychological support—a chance to cope with fears, tension, and worries.
A psychologist helps the child get used to the new environment, feel safe, learn to trust adults, and go through treatment more calmly. Support is also important for accompanying adults: the specialist explains how to communicate with a child who has experienced trauma, understand their feelings, and avoid mistakes that could cause additional harm.
