Makhmud is four years old. He was born prematurely, and just three months later he was diagnosed with retinopathy of prematurity. Now, the boy has stage 5 retinopathy in the cicatricial stage, surgically treated total retinal detachment, as well as surgically treated anterior chamber deformation with corneal dystrophy, aphakia, and aniridia.
Despite all the difficulties, Makhmud is drawn to beauty: he is passionately interested in music and singing, quickly repeats what he hears, and tries playing the piano and drums.
