Thanks to your support, Safiya underwent an urgent, critical surgery.

Doctors removed her left kidney, which had been causing the little girl’s body to constantly lose large amounts of protein. At the same time, a gastrostomy tube was inserted so she could receive the necessary nutrition to regain her strength.

Following the surgery, there were immediate positive signs. Safiya began losing significantly less protein, and the supportive infusions—previously required on a daily basis—are now needed much less frequently. Her remaining kidney has continued to function effectively. For a child with such a severe medical condition, these are vital improvements.

Her recovery was challenging, and Safiya remained under close medical supervision for an extended period. However, by the time she was discharged, specialists noted a clear improvement in her condition.

There is still a long road ahead for the little girl. She needs to grow, gain weight, and prepare for the next stages of her treatment.

Safiya's kidneys are failing. She requires urgent surgery!

Safiya was born prematurely, with a low birth weight, and a congenital kidney disease.

She has been hospitalized since birth: first in the neonatal unit, then in intensive care.

The baby's condition remains extremely serious and life-threatening.

The primary diagnosis is congenital nephrotic syndrome. With this disease, the kidneys fail to cope, and the body rapidly loses protein.

The girl has been under medical observation for almost five months.

She currently requires urgent, comprehensive surgical treatment.

Doctors are considering kidney removal, dialysis support, intensive care, and preparation for a transplant.

Due to her low birth weight, a transplant is currently impossible. First, it is necessary to stabilize Safiya's condition and help her gain weight.

Despite her hospital life, the little girl is developing as best her condition allows.

Safiya is actively learning to roll over, is interested in toys, and reaches for them with her tiny fingers.

The little girl recognizes her mother, who can't be with her daughter in the intensive care unit all the time. She's happy when her dad comes home, and she doesn't yet know that her two older brothers are waiting for her at home.
