Thank you to the users of Tooba — thanks to you, Ameliya now has an active wheelchair.
The wheelchair was selected and adjusted individually so that Ameliya would be comfortable sitting, holding her torso, and learning to control her own movement. Usually, it takes time to get used to new equipment: to figure out how to turn the wheels, how to stop, how to turn. But Ameliya quickly figured out what to do.
"Ameliya really liked the active wheelchair. For me, it was unexpected that even during the fitting and adjustment in the store, she immediately understood how to control it," her mother said.
Right now, Ameliya is using the wheelchair at home. She will go to school next year, and the family has time to calmly get used to the new equipment, practice, and make movement a part of everyday life.
The active wheelchair is necessary for Ameliya not only for getting around. It is a rehabilitation tool: it helps the child sit in the correct position, engage her arms and torso, learn to turn, stop, and choose where to go.
For now, home practice is ahead. And later, the wheelchair will help Ameliya at school: to be with other children, participate in classes, play during breaks, and move around not only with the help of adults.
