The world that Katya sees is no longer double and stretched into a flat picture. It is big, three-dimensional, and truly wonderful. Thanks to the support of 215 Tubers, we were able to raise the money needed for the girl's surgery.

Katya was born much prematurely, and her eye organ had not had time to form. Her mother couldn't understand what her daughter was focusing on before: Katya's eyes met at one point and she could rarely reach her hand to her favorite toy without missing it. And to see the corner of the table - and certainly not.

Doctors got rid of strabismus, allowing her vision to form properly. Now Katya could look intently into her mother's eyes and pick up her favorite doll on the first try. She even started to talk in a completely different way.

"Before, my daughter used to build short sentences of one or two words, but now she has six or seven words. Adjectives started to appear in her speech. We're now learning colors, which is not easy for Katya, but we're trying. And also Kate's appearance is changed - the angle of squinting decreased from 60 to 10 degrees. It would not have happened without your help. Thank you everyone for helping our family," says the girl's mother Nadezhda.

Children like Katya Shirobokova are called «Twinkletoes». Born in the 25th week, weighing less than a kilogram - this baby spent the first three months of her life in intensive care. But the parents were not intimidated by the long list of their daughter's diagnoses and the problems they now had to deal with. The main thing, of course, was to make sure that Katya could see the world she had come to.

Newborns’ retinopathy – is a common diagnosis in such premature infants. The organ of vision is delicate and complex. If it does not have time to fully form in the mother's belly, it has to be "grown ripe" after birth. In the first months of her life, Katya underwent many surgical interventions, but the doctors were not able to fix everything.

Now Katya doesn’t perceive what she sees in full volume as people with binocular vision do. Her world is stretched into a flat picture and doubled. One eye sees two brothers, and the other eye also sees two. Due to visual perception defect, difficulties in movement and communication appear, plus crossed-eye is growing - now both Katya's eyes are looking at the same point. Therefore, amblyopia develops: the so-called "lazy eye" - a condition of vision atrophy.

Luckily an advanced western technique has been adapted in Russia: botulinum toxin injections allow correcting strabismus without serious surgical interventions, anesthesia and the long rehabilitation period. The results are encouraging. And the parents hope that Katya soon will be able to focus on voluminous beauty of this world. But first we need to focus on Katya. And help her.
