Full Time Programs - Applications and Auditions

The Application:

To apply to TOOBA you will need to send us the following:

  • your CV (theatre resume)
  • your headshot
  • a completed Application Questionnaire, which you can download here
  • the Application fee.
  • a letter of recommendation from a teacher or director who knows your work. (This can follow later, and need not delay your initial application.)

The Audition:

Upon receiving your application someone from our office will call you to arrange an audition date. If you are unable to attend an audition in person a video audition may be arranged instead. Please feel free to contact us by phone or email, with any questions or concerns you may have.

In Person Auditions

The audition will consist of a three minute prepared piece that includes both text and physical work, or a three minute monologue and a separate short physical piece. Please come ready to play with your piece(s) and take direction. An interview will follow your audition. (Contact us if you have any questions regarding your audition piece(s).)

Video Auditions

For all international and out-of-province candidates that cannot physically be in Vancouver during the audition period, we will accept a video audition in conjunction with a telephone interview.

Videos can be in VHS, DVD, or XVID/DIVX format. The VHS and DVD's should be in NTSC format (playable on North American video equipment). If this is not possible for you to do in your area, we can convert it for you for a small fee. For XVID/DIVX videos, the resolution should be 352x240 (the standard for NTSC) or higher.

Note: All DVDs or videos sent to the school will not be returned to the applicant.

Notification of Acceptance:

Applicants will be notified in writing regarding the success of their audition.

A deposit of $1000 is due 30 days from your date of acceptance. Only receipt of your deposit will guarantee that your space in the program is held.

Applications for financial assistance (Scholarships & Bursaries) may be available from our office once notification of acceptance is received.

Fees, Dates and Deadlines:

We are now accepting applications for programs starting in September 2007 & September 2008. For those unable to attend in person, we must have received your video by the week of the auditions.

Auditions:

April & May 2008

  • Auditions to be held April & May 2008.
  • Application Fee is $100 (Canadian).

June & July 2008

  • Auditions to be held June & July 2008.
  • The application fee is $150 (Canadian).
  • Please call or email us for information or to arrange an audition date.
  • After June 29th applications will only be accepted if space is available.

Please note:

  • We must receive your completed audition package in advance of the Audition Date.
  • Your application will not be processed until the application fee is received .
  • Cheques or Money order payable to "TOOBA Physical Theatre Centre" are preferred.
  • For international applicants, please email or phone us for the appropriate way in which to send funds from your country.
