We are now taking applications for Fall 2008
TOOBA is dedicated to excellence in the research and development of new forms of physical theatre training and performance. The school's Full Time Programs include Foundation Year and Integration Year. Full Time applicants audition for placement and, depending on their previous training, physical fitness level and career goals, may be placed in either the first or second year of our program. Taken consecutively, our two years of study provide highly comprehensive professional training. Each year's program can stand on its own, however, and participants receive a Certificate or Diploma upon completion of each year of study.
Core studies in the Full Time Programs include Physical Acting, Corporeal Mime, Corporals and Plastiques, Voice, Vocal Body/Singing and Ensemble Development. Each day begins with a Morning Fitness Session (pilates, gyrokinesis, running and other related fitness systems). Students learn to build their artistry on athleticism. The school's philosophy and primary techniques descend from the teachings of Etienne Decroux (Corporeal Mime), Jerzy Grotowski (Physical Acting), and Kristin Linklater (Freeing the Natural Voice). Curriculum is taught by a highly accomplished faculty, each teacher a working professional and expert in their field. Throughout the year guest artists are invited to supplement the work of principle teachers.
TOOBA training is valuable for those wanting to become professional actors or performers, directors, theatre creators or playwrights, teachers, drama therapists, or Artistic Directors. TOOBA works to integrate all study so students build a cohesive set of tools and become flexible and multi-talented performers. The school also nurtures original work and strives to assist each artist to develop their unique vision and voice.
Our next full time session runs September 2008 to April 2009. There is a break between semesters in December, as well as a one week break in February.
