Dean Fogal received an MA in Drama, Speech and Communications from the University of Arkansas, and a BA from the University of British Columbia. Fogal studied at the Etienne Decroux School of Mime in Paris, France for three years and worked with Thomas Leabhart at the Arkansas Mime Theatre.
Dean Founded Tooba Physical Theatre Centre with Director Kate Weiss in 1996. He has been the Artistic Director of the Corporeal Mime Society, and has operated the Corporeal Mime Studio in Vancouver since 1980. He has collaborated with Al Razutis on several films including Walking In Air, Discovery of Loss and Objects of Love. His writings include: "The Assimilation of Style" and " Tribute to Etienne Decroux."
Corporeal Mime trains the actor to be both instrument and player. The well-trained performer is able to direct their body to play sublime music. It is said that movement and gesture are an international language. They cut through economic, social and class differences. Decroux once said, "'The future war will not be fought between ideologies but between those standing and those sitting."
